FIVE WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR
FAVE INDEPENDENT ARTIST

When you fall in love with an indie artist's music, you want to do everything you can to help spread the word. Here's some helpful tips to help you get started.

1) LISTEN & PURCHASE MUSIC
There seems to be some confusion as to which purchase platform is most beneficial to the artist. The best rule of thumb is to check the artist's website first and purchase directly from there. If that's not an option, check CD Baby & BandCamp. Although I-Tunes & Spotify may be the most popular, they pay artists the least. I-Tunes pays artists 9 cents per download and the average "per stream" payout on Spotify is somewhere between $0.006 and $0.0085. Remember, always buy directly from the artist's website, if possible.

2) ATTEND LIVE PERFORMANCES
Support your local independent artists by going to their gigs and bringing friends!! If you aren't able to catch your fave artist in concert, you can catch them on Facebook Live (on their personal, band or artist Facebook page). Facebook Live now allows artists to post a virtual tip jar, so you can throw some bucks in their virtual guitar case! Another great way to see indie artists perform live is via Concert Window. Depending on how an artist sets up the performance, Concert Window shows are either free, "Pay What You Want" ($1 minimum) or a set ticket price and viewers can tip while the show is in progress.

3) BUY MERCH
It's a travesty, but independent artists make very little revenue from their music, so they have to rely on other income streams to keep the music going. Many artists offer super cool merch at affordable prices. Look for a merch store on the artist's website. 4) FOLLOW
If you want to be notified when your fave artist is releasing new music or videos, playing a gig in your area or is doing a live performance online, be sure to follow them & sign up for notifications on all their social media platforms. Here's a helpful hint for Facebook followers: Click the dropdown box next to "Follow". It is automatically set to "default", which means you'll see their posts randomly throughout your news feed. Click on "See First" and that artist's posts will be the first thing you see in your news feed every day!

5) SHARE
Did you know that commenting on and sharing an artist's posts and videos will help increase their exposure & popularity? It's true! It's a very fast & simple way to make a difference in keeping your fave artist prominent on Youtube and social media, which will hopefully result in new fans! So, share the posts - Share the videos - Share the love!
